New Slimline Bus Shelters
On Friday, July 17, 2009, Miami-Dade Transit introduced its new slimline bus shelters, which are small enough to be installed at many bus stops where the standard full-size shelters cannot be accommodated. Eleven slimline shelters already have been installed, mostly along Fontainebleau Boulevard. As many as 178 slimlines could be installed throughout unincorporated Miami-Dade County [...]
Icon Brickell Disregard – Update – Why We Need Miami21
I wrote in a previous post about the poor urban design and integration of Icon Brickell into it’s immediate surroundings. The new building(s), at the mouth of the Miami River, show poor connectivity and sensativity to the pedestrian fabric. The design is autocentric in nature — detached from the street. Even two new parks that surround the site are poorly [...]
Easy Card System
Miami Date Transit has been busy implementing and installing the new EASY Card fare gate collection system for Miami. Yesterday, during a ride on the metro, I noticed that the Brickell Station is being outfitted with the new machines. Although not yet operational, South Miami, as well as other stations, have already had the machines installed.
Victorious Cape May
Picturesque Cape May holds the distinction of being the oldest seashore resort in the United States and one of the most unique.

Views from 1450 Brickell and One Broadway
The following is a collection of photographic images of the Downtown Miami/Brickell skyline taken from One Broadway and 1450 Brickell Avenue during a recent construction tour. Broken Tiles of Dreams – Isaiah Zagar in Philadelphia
During a recent roadtrip, I stumbled upon the work of Isaiah Zagar in “South Philly”. Isaiah Zagar is a long-time mosaic tile artist who has created murals and art pieces that graze the streets Philadelphia. Store fronts, alleys, and even entire buildings throughout South Philly are covered in his imaginative and fantasy-like artwork.
Expressions Campaign – Culture in Miami
Just recently I stumbled upon the interesting Expressions Campaign by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau that highlights local artists from Miami. While I had seen a couple of these provocative images before, I was glad to see a much larger collection. The images are visually stunning and the message seems to capture much of what makes Miami’s local culture unique today.
Aldo Rossi – Architecture of the City
Although a hard, sometimes confusing and academic read, Aldo Rossi’s (May 3, 1931 – September 4, 1997) Architecture of the City is a ground breaking anlysis of the city and its parts. There are few books that I’ve read that have shaped my understanding of the city as much as this book. It has taught me the importance of the [...]
21 Reasons for Miami 21
Here is a list of 21 reasons why we should all support Miami21.
West 8 Replaces Gehry
Over the last few months , Urban City Architecture has been following the drama over at the New World Symphony site in Miami Beach. The park component of the Frank Gehry designed building has been at the center of a financing disagreement between the city and the famed architect. Financial issues and a lot of wrangling and finger pointing recently led Frank [...]
LEED School in South Florida
There was an interesting article in the Miami Herald today regarding the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system in South Florida. Zyscovich Architects in Miami has completed Pine Jog Elementary in Palm Beach County, the first South Florida school to be certified gold by the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system.

It has been almost two years since the Miami Science Museum and Planetarium announced plans to build a new home designed by Grimshaw Architects. Allthough very little news has come out in that time, recently some images and information of the new Miami Science Museum was made available. The new Miami Science Museum, aquarium, and planetarium will be situated on [...]
